Climbing to the Sun is a book steeped in the culture and rituals of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Set in Pickens, SC, Callie Beecham is a healer and an herbalist who uses  plant-based treatments to help her patients. One morning a young man comes asking her for help with his wife who is struggling with childbirth in a freed-slave settlement at the edge of the mountains. Callie quickly finds herself threatened by important towns people who know a deep dark secret about her.
